Can i freeze lactation cookie dough
I know they helped me. Pingback: Summer Favorites. My cookie dough was quite dry, so I added a few drops of water and had to squish these into balls and then flatten out into disks to bake.
Taste wise, though? Thank you for a super recipe! I left out nuts and coconut, swapped a bit of stone ground flour, and swapped about. Omg these are so good! They fall apart but they are super tasty. The dried yeast from the store is for breads, so it will give the cookies a different taste and different texture. You can, but it will change the texture of the cookies. Good luck and please let me know how they turn out if you try them with coconut palm sugar!!
I suggest adding raisins and extra salt. Best cookies ever. I also doubled the cinnamon, flax seed and brewers yeast. These cookies are totally good for my health! Thank for your recipe, now I know the way to make cookies with dark chocolate. So I added another egg to the remaining dough, these came out better, more of a solid cookie. This is the most delicious lactation cookie! I made them a bit larger and baked them for 14 mins and 30 seconds. They held together well. Thanks for the recipe!
The textures might change, but I hope it helps! The very first taste of my first one, I could definitely taste something different probably the yeast? I ended up adding a generous pour of unsweetened applesauce for moistness because they are a drier cookie. To save time, I make 2 batches at a time, bake them in pan, let them cool, cut them into squares, and freeze them in smaller containers of about 8 and pull out a container as needed. Just made these for a friend and saved some for myself since I still have a feeding baby!
This is my favorite lactation cookie recipe to date! I think it is worth a shot, but I can not testify to the final result! If you do try it, please let me know how they work out!
And to think, I was gonna buy those lactation cookies that were described as chips a hoy. So, some of the things I did: 3 times the recipe made a lot!! Wow, literally hours after eating these, while nursing I started leaking out the other side! So so happy!!!
Hmmm, glad everyone enjoyed these so much. Just as others have suggested, my dough was really dry and crumbly. Plus, Mamas can use the nourishing fats. I cut the sugar in half and used dark chocolate chips because of my personal taste preferences, but I followed the rest of the recipe exactly. They held together well, and I really like the texture. It may be too soon to tell if these help me produce more milk, but they are a pleasure to eat! Maddy, I am so pleased you enjoyed them!!
If you do try it, let us know how they turn out! I really wanted to try with chocolate, but mine melted on me before I could use them. I added dried cranberries instead with coconut and walnuts and they taste amazing! They will be a good breakfast cookie too!
I can barely taste the yeast at all so I will have no trouble getting these down. I just hope it works. Seriously great recipe — thank you so much!! To freeze, would you freeze extra dough or bale and freeze the cookies? Hi Tania! I would freeze the dough into balls, so that way you just have to pop the right number onto the sheet and bake! Here is my guide to freezing cookies, I hope it helps! Decided to double the batch and freeze for myself due early January and my sister due mid-april.
I only made a few tweaks, mostly based on other comments, but followed the recipe otherwise. I originally baked for 12 mins, total cook time was 15 mins I used semisweet chips and sweetened coconut flakes, but did not add nuts because mama is on a budget. Just baked these while my LO slept and gotta say they were divine! If I can keep them from my hubby long enough, they might actually get a chance to work! Tiffany — I am so so pleased that these were a hit!!
They saved me during my nursing journey as well. I am also going to share my dairy free version as well, because some wee babes have a rough time with dairy. But no mom should be without a cookie! I just made these cookies for my daughter who due to a c-section has had some breast feeding issues. A tip for any of you worried that the dough may be a bit dry. As an experienced baker, I added the oats last in increments to see how the dough was coming along.
Thank you so much for all of this info Eve!! I have made a dairy free version with coconut oil, too! I hope your daughter likes these, and congrats to her!! I made these followed the recipe exactly for my daughter-in-law following the birth of my granddaughter.
They were delicious and worked great! I left extra dough in the refrigerator for later, when I left. Thank you. Thank you so much for your review, Valerie! And congrats to you DIL for the new addition!! Hi Diane! Do these hold up in the freezer and if so for how long? Im 9days from my due date and wouldnt mind having some of these on hand.
Hi Katherine! Absolutely, just place the bites on a cookie sheet and freeze for about one hour. Remove from cookie sheet and place in an airtight freezer bag or container. Congrats and best wishes! Hi Lesley! They have similar nutritional benefits, but vary greatly in taste. Nutritional yeast has a cheesy flavor that might not taste so great in these bites.
Hello, Just curious how long you think it would take to start seeing any sort of increase if these were to be effective? Hi Dawn! Everyone is so different so it would be hard to say. I personally noticed the increase pretty quickly and the more often I ate them, the more it would increase. Hi Bharghavi! Hi, sorry if this is a silly question, do I have to cook the oatmeal before use it to make the lactation bites?
No, as long as you are using old-fashioned rolled oats or quick cooking oats there is not need to cook them. If you are using steel cut oats, you would need to cook those first.
Hi just a quick question. I ran out of honey and vanilla extract. There is anything else I can substitute them in the meantime? Hi Joanna! Maple syrup would be a great substitute. No need to worry about the vanilla extract. Or you could try agave.
Just found these after searching through all the lactation cookie recipes that have regular flour and sugar in them!! Soooo happy to find whole ingredients and something so fast and easy to make!! I was in love before I even finished mixing them up. Instead of choc chips I used raw cacao I had on hand and I am literally overjoyed! Thank you for this awesome recipe and presenting it so loosely. I literally lived for them and my babies, of course! Continue to enjoy and best wishes!
Just made these today and they are delicious! My husband and my 2 year old daughter love them too. Omg these are sooo amazing. Thank you for the recipe. I substituted the choc chips with one tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and they still taste amazing! Thanks again!!! They do help keep you regular which I thought was a nice benefit in addition to the boost in supply I got.
Hi Arria! No, you can use any peanut butter you prefer. Hi Heidi! Hi bakermama, what about steel cut oats? Im 2 months into breastfeeding and loving it, albeit exhausting it is working really well for me. Hi Bianca! Steel cut oats are best cooked first.
You can certainly mix the ingredients in a mixing bowl with a sturdy mixing spoon. Love these!! Hi — what can I use instead of the peanut butter or almond butter? Thank you so much for sharing this story. It is truly inspiring! I just tried out the recipe and these lactation bites are so yummy! Thank you for this inspiring story and recipe.
The flavors in these bites are rich and so delicious! Thank you SO much for the recipe! I like the dried cranberry idea someone had posted, I will totally try that in the next batch. I used a cookie scoop to portion out the bites a bit better dang OCD and we got a good out of them this way and still seem to be a pretty good size as well about bites big! Hi, I plan on making these for my second baby to nurse with but was wondering if you could freeze them?
I want to make them ahaead of time and have them ready! I dont need to increase supply, I make plenty of milk. Hi Jen! Would you happen to have a substitute? So excited these peaked your interest! You can either leave them out or if you want the added nutrition and crunch of a seed, chia seeds are a great substitute. Any idea? Hi Annette! Did you check the health and beauty section of Whole Foods? Fingers crossed you find some and best wishes to your daughter-in-law.
Hi Amy! Just set then out at room temperature to defrost. I made these last night and used steel cut oats. They are absolutely fantastic! The steel cut oats give a wonderful crunch and texture. Hi Alison! What kind of steel cut oats did you use? And did you cook them first? Continue to enjoy! Thank you so much, these are going to help 2 of my friends who are breastfeeding moms!
One of my friends baby is in the nicu and she needs to produce more since she has to pump. As a nicu mom myself I had a friend deliver these to me and they were amazing and my milk supply was amazing! I just went out yesterday and bought ingredients for making lactation cookies for the first time.
I saw this recipe and knew I had to try them first! The texture was perfect and they taste great. I made them smaller than the recipe calls for and ended up with more than 2 dozen 33 to be exact.
Update: Wow, these worked like a charm! I made then yesterday and when I double pumped today, I got a total of 6oz! This recipe is definitely a keeper! Took me all of 5 minutes to throw these together and they are delicious I already ate 3 before putting them in the fridge! Thanks for the great recipe! Looking forward to eating lots of these in the coming months. Hi Kara! First of all, congrats and best wishes for a smooth and safe delivery followed by lots of sweet snuggles with your new baby.
I had my baby January and have made these twice. These look delicious! I just discovered he has an oat allergy. The cookies have been amazing for my supply.
Hi Copley! Hi Thanks for sharing your experience and recipe! Hi Alana! I started eating them while I was still pregnant, mostly for the nutritional benefits, but maybe consult with your doctor first just to make sure. Also used dairy free mini Enjoy Life chocolate chips.
Very good. Very happy to have a recipe that is easy to make. I subbed the chocolate for raisins and dried berries and added 1. This is a recipe I will be making for a long time. Thank you for sharing! Followed the recipe as is and they turned out amazing!
Used regular bitter brewers yeast and thought that the sweetness from the honey, vanilla and Pb masked it well. My husband loved them too. Will make again! Hi Lindsey! Hi Meng! I apologize if you had this information somewhere and I overlooked it. How many do you suggest to eat a day?!? Hi Kari! I personally would each 2 each time I nursed our babies, but I needed a lot of extra calories to increase and keep my supply up.
I hope you enjoy them though. Hi Savita! Hi Antonet! It certainly depends on the person, but I will usually eat bites at a time. We had to go and buy bottles and formula in the middle of the night because we snobbed them as gifts at the baby shower, haha what a shameful mistake! Anyways, milk or no milk, let us have a yummy snack because darn, motherhood can be hard! Yes, you can do that. They might be a lot sweeter Nutella is pretty sweet , so you might want to reduce the amount of honey. For Nutella bites, try these, too!
You are a super Mum going through all of that. I can relate to your story. I have to pump and bottle feed my baby boy and I also have to use a nipple shield when breastfeeding. From the stress my milk supply went down so I had to give formula fir a while and had to to start taking domperidone.
I was so looking forward to breastfeeding and the bonding with my baby. These are so yummy and quick to make. Hi Hazel!
Your story will comfort so many other moms going through the same experience. You are certainly not alone in this journey. I know exactly how frustrating and disappointing it can be, but you are doing your best. All that truly matters is your love for your little guy and I have no doubt he feels your love and efforts constantly. Hang in there and best wishes! Enjoy these days. They fly by way too fast. Yes, you could use maple syrup or agave next time. Made these today, easy to throw together and anything with peanut butter is a winner for me.
However, I found my mixture too crumbly to hold together after carefully measuring everything. That did the trick. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I made them for my daughter who is 2weeks postpartum. She likes them so much and says they really seem to give her some needed energy quickly! Breastfeeding is going well. So easy and as her mom I love knowing that I helped her a little.
Hi Tiffany! Yes, they are very different in taste. I Love this recipe! Super easy, very healthy, and definitely helping with my breast milk supply! Thank you for this recipe I am looking forward to trying it! I have a question about the brewers yeast. Am I able to use Active Dry Yeast instead? Hi Ariann! Active dry yeast is a leavening agent used when baking. Brewers yeast is a nutritional substitute. Hi Paige! They last for up to 4 weeks in the freezer if stored in a freezer safe baggie or sealed container.
Best wishes and enjoy! I was buying cookies for months now that include these ingredients and spending a lot of money. They increase supply too! Added raisins as well as choc chips at the end. They were yummy and hit the spot, esp. I make no-bake treats from a recipe by Baker Mama, which is my favourite among several I tried. I […]. February 3, Jump to Recipe. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add all ingredients except for the chocolate chips. Mix on low speed until mixture is well combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
Roll mixture into 2-tablespoon sized smooth balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or enjoy right away. Once the bites have set, transfer them to an air-tight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. What is the best brewers yeast to use. There are so many and different milligrams?
Do these freeze well? Wanting to make them in advance! I've used those before and they work great. Not sure about the dough though. I've frozen the dough and did not notice any difference in taste in texture. I haven't noticed a difference in milk supply yet. Gonna try another batch.
