Where is verlander from
For those of you that have wondered, James Click tells us that Justin Verlander's doctors have told him that he should not try to return to pitch for the Astros this season. A return this year is off the table. These days the typical Tommy John surgery rehab timetable is months, so Verlander returning this year, even as a reliever in September and during the postseason , would have been very aggressive.
Doing too much, too soon can lead to even more problems. Verlander, 38, started Opening Day last July 24 and has not pitched since. He is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason, and although he is coming off a major arm injury, Verlander figures to appeal to contenders given his pedigree and the fact he is likely to sign a short-term contract at his age and coming off surgery.
An extension with the Astros shouldn't be ruled out. He knows he must get back to full strength before he deeply thinks about his next move as a free agent. If things are going bad, it's like, 'OK, turn the page, focus on the next one. I can't think about what I'm going to do next year or five years from now or 10 years from now.
He has spoken with his younger brother, Ben Verlander, about possibly reuniting with the fans, the city and his old organization before retirement, which isn't expected to happen anytime soon. Knowing how much Detroit means to Justin, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
And Justin wants to pitch for a long time still. By no means is he coming up on the last year of his career. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if it ends up happening a few years down the road.

Although Verlander didn't tweet much about the Astros in the regular season, he has posted a couple messages about his team in the playoffs, including encouragement for the Astros to pay soon-to-be free agent Carlos Correa after his Game 1 homer against the Red Sox. Live look at my excitement level to watch the Astros today! Verlander has been excellent as an Astro ever since he was traded from Detroit to Houston in August He helped that team win their first World Series, then he finished second in American League Cy Young Voting the next season and won it in as the Astros returned to the World Series.
Verlander got hurt in his first start of the shortened season and had Tommy John surgery in September of that year.
